\r\n\tFlavio Bolsonaro, a senator and son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, gave an interview to the Israeli newspaper “The Jerusalem Post” during a large conference in Jerusalem in late January 2026<\/strong><\/p>

The event was called “Generation of Truth” and addressed the rise of antisemitism (prejudice against Jews) and Holocaust denial.<\/p>

\r\nThe conference was organized by the Israeli government.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nFl\u00c3\u00a1vio attended the event accompanied by a large team and attracted a lot of attention, especially from Brazilians living in Israel (called “olim”).<\/p>

\r\nMany people took photos with him, showing that he has support there.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nIf elected president of Brazil in the 2026 elections (and taking office in 2027), Fl\u00c3\u00a1vio said that, in the first six months of his government, he will move the Brazilian embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.<\/p>

\r\nThis would be a very strong gesture of support for Israel, as few countries do this (the United States did it during the Trump administration, for example).\r\n<\/p>

\r\nRelations between Brazil and Israel worsened considerably during President Lula’s administration.<\/p>

\r\nIn February 2024, Lula compared Israel’s war in Gaza to the Holocaust (the extermination of Jews in World War II).<\/p>

\r\nIsrael was very angry about this, declared Lula “persona non grata” (someone who is not welcome), and diplomatic relations cooled.<\/p>

\r\nBrazil recalled its ambassador and supported actions against Israel in international courts.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nFl\u00c3\u00a1vio harshly criticizes this stance of Lula.<\/p>

\r\nHe says that the current president has become close to “dictators” (citing Iran as an example) and that this harms Brazil.<\/p>

\r\nAccording to him, the way to combat antisemitism in Brazil is to remove Lula from power.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nFl\u00c3\u00a1vio and his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro say that Brazil is a “Christian-Jewish country”.<\/p>

\r\nThey say that the most important values “”of Brazilians-family, faith in God, human rights, democracy, and freedom of expression-are similar to the values “”of Israel.<\/p>

\r\nTherefore, supporting Israel is not just politics: it’s the right thing to do, regardless of trade agreements or interests.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nThey also mention an initiative called the “Isaac Accords” (inspired by the Abraham Accords, which brought Israel closer to several Arab countries).<\/p>

\r\nThe idea is to create stronger ties between Israel and Latin American countries, such as economics, culture, and diplomacy.<\/p>

\r\nThe president of Argentina, Javier Milei, also supports this rapprochement.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nResearch shows that in Latin America (including Brazil), the number of Catholics is declining, but many people continue to believe in God (almost 100% of Brazilians say they believe).<\/p>

\r\nEvangelicals are growing and are very organized.<\/p>

\r\nFor many of them, Israel represents something important in the “culture war” between conservatives and progressives.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nWith this visit to Jerusalem, photos, interviews, and promises, Fl\u00c3\u00a1vio wants to present himself as his father’s political heir and as a strong conservative leader.<\/p>

\r\nHe bets that, if he wins in 2026, Brazil will once again be a close ally of Israel, unlike what happens today.\r\n<\/p>

\r\n– Fl\u00c3\u00a1vio Bolsonaro went to Jerusalem and promised to move the embassy there if he becomes president.\r\n<\/p>

\r\n– He criticizes Lula and wants to return to a much more friendly policy towards Israel.\r\n<\/p>

\r\n– He presents Brazil as a country of “Christian-Jewish” values “”and says that supporting Israel is a matter of principle, not just politics.\r\n<\/p>

\r\nThis is part of a larger strategy by the Bolsonaros to regain support among evangelicals, conservatives, and the Jewish community (including outside of Brazil).\r\n<\/p>
